Lucid Motors revealed its latest Over-The-Air (OTA) updates for its Lucid Air sedan Thursday, which the company says are its most extensive to date. The new software provides “significant advancements and improvements across the vehicle” according to the company.

“This extensive software update, comprising tens of millions of new lines of source code across nearly every updateable computer in the vehicle, is achievable because the Lucid Air was engineered from the start with the capability to get better over time,” said Michael Bell, senior vice president of Digital, Lucid Group.

“Thanks to our integrated software and hardware engineering, Lucid has the in-house technical depth to enhance our vehicles long after they leave the assembly line.”

The initial delivery of Lucid UX 2.0 software to customer vehicles has started and will last for the ensuing few weeks. The updates are free.

Among the changes are displays that come on instantly by the time the driver opens the door, sits down and buckles up.

In an effort to make the Lucid UX more ergonomically friendly, the Glass Cockpit display has a new on-screen layout for the Home, Navigation, Media, and Phone easier to use. Lucid has also revised the user interface for third party media apps, making it easier to use.

The company has also revised the remaining range indicator, making its estimates more predictive of what you can expect. The car’s onboard Alexa can now handle a greater variety of voice commands, such as adjusting the rear seat climate controls.

The Lucid Air’s drive assistance Highway Assist feature now comes with active lane centering and adaptive cruise control. Rear Pedestrian Collision Protection is now enabled when the vehicle is in Drive as well as in reverse. The automaker has also improved its Park Distance Warning feature.

Now, high beam assist automatically switches to low beams after detecting adjacent light sources, including both other vehicles and other nearby light sources. Sensor-based height and vehicle angle adjustments are available with automatic headlamp leveling. And removing ice and frost is easier thanks to a new De-Ice Mode combines defrost, automatic wiper blade movement and wiper fluid.

“Lucid’s truly innovative user interface becomes easier to use and even more aesthetically beautiful in each iteration, delivered seamlessly over-the-air to the vehicle,” said Derek Jenkins, senior vice president of Design and Brand, Lucid Motors. “This latest software release incorporates numerous refinements — many based on owner feedback and ideas — which make Lucid Air even more enjoyable, convenient and capable for our customers.”
