Look at the youngest member of the Ford truck family.

Take a look at the new 2022 Ford Maverick compact pickup truck. This is a pickup truck based on a passenger cab crossover that can accommodate 5 people and has a 4.5-foot bed at the rear. Maverick’s basic model is a front-wheel-drive hybrid, with an estimated 40 miles per gallon and a starting price of $19,995. The truck has a maximum load rating of 1,500 pounds, a maximum towing force of 4,000 pounds, and an optional turbocharged power unit. Check out this world premiere with a "hands-on" video and the top 10 most important features (link below).

The new Maverick pickup shares its platform with Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Escape, but it is much larger than the crossover model and has many unique components to provide its functionality and practicality. The Maverick’s wheelbase is about 16 inches longer than the Bronco Sport. The total length of Maverick is less than 200 inches.

Maverick has joined other members of the Ford pickup family, including Ford Ranger, Ford F-150, Ford Super Duty and Ford Medium Truck. Maverick is about 11 inches shorter than the Ford Ranger. In fact, this is more like a compact crossover pickup truck.

Of course, vehicle design is very subjective. Please tell us your thoughts on the appearance of Maverick in the comments section below. Personally, I want any pickup truck to have masculinity and blocky body lines and design elements. Maverick offers block design, but I am not a big fan of front-end design. I think the exterior, rear and interior design are all fresh and well done.

At the same time, here is the design sketch of Ford Maverick.

2022 Ford Maverick will provide three decoration levels: XL, XLT and Lariat. In fact, there will be a First Edition model to commemorate the release of the new model. Ford is using its very traditional truck trim name. This decorative layout is very similar to the layout currently offered by Ford Ranger mid-size trucks.

XL front-wheel drive models will be equipped with a 2.5-liter I4 hybrid system as standard, which also provides eCVT. This system is very similar to the system currently used in the Ford Escape Hybrid compact crossover. In Maverick, Hybrid produces a total of 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. Hybrid vehicles are not suitable for all-wheel drive configurations. Ford estimates that the basic Maverick FWD Hybrid can reach up to 40 MPG in the city, which adds up to 37 MPG. If you consider that Maverick provides a 13.8 gallon fuel tank, this means that the maximum estimated driving range is about 500 miles.

Maverick will offer an optional 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost I4 engine option with a rated power of 250 horsepower and a torque of 277 pound-feet. The engine is used in conjunction with a traditional 8-speed automatic transmission. Turbocharged Maverick will provide AWD configuration. If properly equipped, this more powerful power unit can also provide more towing capacity. This point will be described in detail later. Ford has not yet revealed the fuel economy or price of the Maverick turbo.

Ford rated the maximum payload capacity of all basic models of 2022 Maverick as 1,500 pounds. Ford pointed out that all of these payloads can be loaded in the bed. Obviously, Ford is looking for its main Maverick competitor, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. The Santa Cruz bed has a rated maximum weight of 660 pounds, while the Santa Cruz’s total payload is 1,700 pounds.

The turbocharged Santa Cruz has a rated towing force of up to 5,000 pounds, while the Maverick turbocharger can be configured for a maximum towing force of 4,000 pounds. The maximum 4K towing package also includes an integrated brake controller.

Pickup trucks will provide a variety of optional driving modes: normal, towing/towing, slippery, ecological and sports. Ford will provide Maverick with a unique FX4 off-road package, which includes a specially adjusted suspension, more aggressive tires, additional underbody protection and a special off-road driving mode. Ford once again used its traditional FX4 off-road package name for Maverick. Maverick does not have Badlands or Sasquatch packages, at least not in the initial announcement. There is also no mention of Tremor or Raptor versions.

Speaking of off-road-Maverick AWD provides up to 8.6 inches of ground clearance. The AWD model has an approach angle of 21.6 degrees, a departure angle of 21.2 degrees, and a breakthrough angle of 18.1 degrees. It is not a dedicated off-road vehicle, but it should provide enough ability to solve some minor obstacles that are inaccessible.

Although the interior of Maverick is similar to that of Bronco Sport, it has its own unique personality and characteristics. Maverick has a unique door card and storage box under the rear seat. To view detailed internal comments, please watch the video below.

Maverick has a 4.5-foot bed, and when the backsplash is lowered, it expands to a length of 6 feet. The tailgate has two open positions, a standard position and a slightly elevated position, where a piece of 4×8 material can be placed flat. The function of this tailgate is similar to that of the Jeep Gladiator's tailgate. The bed is made of steel, with many fastening points and slots for the owner to make a self-made partition.

The Maverick XL base truck starts at $19,995, which is impressive. We currently don’t have detailed pricing information, but all of Maverick’s options may peak in the mid-to-high price range of $30,000. Ford said that Maverick will go on sale in the fall of 2021.
