NVIDIA announced a new lineup of affordable laptops featuring its new GeForce RTX 30 series of graphic cards that will be capable of real-time ray tracing and AI-based DLSS. The range starts at $799.

These new platforms will be based on the new GeForce RTX 3050 Ti and 3050 Laptop GPUs, expanding technologies such as NVIDA’s Ampere architecture with dedicated RT and Tensor Cores to a more mainstream audience, increasing the number of RTX 30 series laptops to 140. NVIDIA claims that these new laptops are twice as fast as equivalent previous-generation systems and that they can deliver 60 FPS at a 1080p resolution in games such as Minecraft RTX and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

This new series can deliver this performance even when fitted to thinner and sleeker designs. Mark Aevermann, director of product management for laptops at NVIDIA, said, “There are now five times more RTX 30 Series gaming laptops that are thinner than 18mm compared with previous-generation RTX systems, delivering ground-breaking performance with very sleek and portable designs.”

DLSS (Depp Learning Super Sampling) is an upscaling technology developed by NVIDIA that uses deep learning to upscale lower resolution images to a higher resolution. With this technology, NVIDIA claims 2x faster rendering than previous generations. Powered by specialized Tensor Cores, this technology is now compatible with more than 40 AAA titles.

Besides gaming, DLSS will also enable artists to visualize their designs in real-time and will not have to wait for the ray-traced scenes to finish rendering.

This new series of graphics cards will also be suited for competitive gamers. A very important market for the company as this industry continues to grow. NVIDIA says that the new GeForce RTX 3050 Ti with NVIDIA’s Reflex Low Latency mode will be capable of 144+ FPS and sub-25ms latency in titles such as Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege, and Valorant. Furthermore, it is supported by 7 out of the top 10 competitive shooter games. This technology is available across the entire RTX 30 Series lineup.

In an effort to appeal also to creators instead of just gamers, this new lineup of systems also includes what NVIDIA is calling the NVIDIA Studio laptops. These devices are designed to meet the demands of creators. When equipped with RTX 30 series GPUs, these devices are 2x faster than the previous generation. They will be capable of rendering 8K RAW footage, use AI to simplify workflows, and reduce encode times by up to 75%.

The new GeForce RTX 30 Series laptops, equipped with the GeForce RTX 3080, 3070, and 3060, will be available starting on the 11th of May from a wide variety of NVIDIA’s manufacturing partners. Devices based on the RTX 3050Ti and 3050 will be available this summer at a date to be announced. The lineup starts at 799$ for the cheapest device, and prices should climb with a wide variety of configurations from various manufacturers.
